Hello world! (no, really)

In: no use to you whatsoever

1 Jan 2009

Hello world… pffft.

I did not generate that message. It’s just the default post of a wordpress installation. You’re probably sick of it already. Like you, I also hate the phrase “Hello World!” for a couple of reasons:

  1. Nothing says noob coder here more strongly than a page with “hello world” in it. Seriously, if you’re setting up websites with hello world in the homepage, you had better stop it. You look like a dork. And a stupid one at that.
  2. It’s boring. There aren’t any ‘interesting’ legends attached to it. It was just used in one of the first programming books… and the others picked up on it. If I were to code my first program, I’d post something along the lines of Holy shit! It worked! wouldn’t you?
  3. I just hate seeing it there because this is the fifth time I’m installing a wordpress blog (here or otherwise) and I haven’t gotten past the “hello world” post yet.
  4. So much for a whiny first post. (What, you thought there was more?)

Not to mention that “hello world” is also the lame theme song for the lame show The Saddle Club.

“Hello world, this is me, life should be, fun for everyone” OMG I could just shove my head in the oven for remembering that…too bad our oven is electric.

Hey I like “Holy shit! It worked!”. If I’ll ever get a wordpress, I’ll change the title to that. ;)

Mary!

I remember you :D Just like ol’ times at the Aethereality forum!

Too bad it’s closed now .. and the fact that it died down a few years back. Oh what I would give to have it back running, or rather for the whole AWC to be back into gears again like back in ‘05 :(

mary n. a webdeveloping chemical engineering student from up diliman, known for nothing much yet and hoping to remedy that fact; has trouble introducing herself so she resorts to self-deprecation in the third-person.
